Qanaya - imasleeponit@aol.com.....
I'm gonna give this my honest opinion with no bias (I liked John Legend and Estelle but one of them got cut based on last nights performance). This concert was my very first ever..... I'm comparing the artists to their songs that I know..... There was a guy (one of John Legend's background singers) who opened the show prior to Estelle and in my opinion besides him lacking stage presence (standing very stiff and rocking like a rapper instead of a R&B singer) his voice had more power and star quality than Estelle's, he did three songs, I like two of three and he sounds like a blend of Legend and Carl Thomas. Estelle was next and her performance was very mumbled (probably because of a poor sound check) and the entire time she sang I swear I wished it was the Apollo cause I wanted to boo her off in a rush to get the real performer onstage. John Legend came out and did his thing from start to finish. He gave first verses and then bridges to alot of his songs which was cool cause the transitions were good. I was alittle dissapointed that he didn't complete "This Time" cause it's one of my favorites from Evolver but he did his thing and ended the night with a chores assistance singing "If You're Out There". The best thing about his performance is though he adlib'd songs differently from the album it sounded as if I had my iPod on play like any other day I'm shuffling through his albums. Crisp, clear, strong voice. Great performance, great concert.... Minus Estelle. Oh! And the one song she was featured on and I thought she was there for she didn't even come out..... I swear, no lie, she should have stayed home.
